Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today denounced allegations that he had planned to declare a state of emergency and cling onto power on the night of May 9 after realising that Barisan Nasional (BN) had lost GE14.

Najib said the allegations were untrue and subsequent events showed that the transfer of power had taken place peacefully.

“As we all know on May 9, a transfer of power happened peacefully. Prior to that an allegation had surfaced that myself, as the prime minister, had planned to create chaos and call for a state of emergency. The claim was that I was afraid to lose power.

“What I was accused of was utterly baseless altogether. If one referred to the Malaysian Armed Forces at that time, the police at the time, there was no special National Security Council (NSC) call made at that time,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today while debating the royal address.

The Pekan MP also said that he has always believed in the principles of democracy and rule of law, and has always conformed to the two values.“I also want to say that I am someone who believes in the principles of democracy and rule of law, and abide by it,” he added.
