Six-day remand for Namewee.
Malaysian rapper Namewee has denied claims that he was fleeing from police, saying he voluntarily reported himself to assist in investigations into the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin.
In a statement today, Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, said he travelled from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur to meet police as arranged.
“Earlier, I had already made an appointment with the police to lodge a report and report myself,” he said.
He added that he had arrived at the police station and would fully cooperate with the investigation, sharing a video of himself outside as proof.

“I will not flee. Previously, all seven times I was issued warrants, I voluntarily reported myself,” he said, insisting he has “never fled”.
His remarks followed media reports claiming police had launched a manhunt for him in connection with the case.
Police earlier confirmed that Hsieh’s death has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Kuala Lumpur police chief CP Datuk Fadil Marsus said investigators were tracking the movements of both Hsieh and Wee prior to her death.

Hsieh, known online as “Nurse Goddess”, was found dead at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on October 22. Police are awaiting post-mortem and toxicology results to determine the cause of death.
Sources said Namewee was the last person seen with her before she died, and the rapper was previously detained on drug charges during the same period. Fadil added that several individuals linked to her final days had given statements.
Hsieh’s manager has urged Namewee to clarify his connection to her, saying she never used drugs.
Police have obtained a remand order for the 42-year-old from today until November 10.
