The body of a six-day-old baby boy was found in a well behind a house in a village in Jasin last night.
The body, wrapped in a white diaper cloth, was discovered by villagers and retrieved from the six-metre well at about 10.30pm by personnel from the Jasin Bistari Fire and Rescue Station.
The baby’s father had reported his newborn son missing at the Batang Melaka Police Station at 7.45pm on Saturday.
But police suspect that the baby was murdered and have arrested his parents and four other people – two men and two women – to facilitate an investigation.
“According to the police report, the boy was last seen at 6.30pm sleeping in a room with his mother,” said Jasin police chief DSP Arshad Abu, adding that villagers alerted the police to their gruesome find.
Arshad said the body was sent to the Melaka Hospital and that the six people arrested are aged between 16 and 24.
