Joining the ranks of a long list of MPs to have been appointed as heads of GLCs or government agencies.
Member of Parliament for Kimanis Datuk Mohamad Alamin has been appointed as the new chairman of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), replacing Dr Rozhan Othman who ended his service on April 30.
The corporation is a government agency tasked with educating Malaysians on how to protect their intellectual property.
Mohamad, 48, was a lawyer and former Bongawan assemblyperson between 2013 and 2018.
He bagged 54.34 percent of the popular vote as a BN candidate during the Kimanis by-election on January 18, in a straight fight against Warisan’s Karim Bujang.
Mohamad has joined the ranks of a long list of MPs to have been appointed as heads of GLCs or government agencies by Perikatan Nasional.
Previously, Sabah Umno had lobbied for Mohamad to be appointed as a deputy minister.
The party also lobbied for Bung Moktar Radin to be appointed chairperson of the Sabah Federal Development, and Abdul Rahman Dahlan as a senator.
MyIPO in a statement today also announced the appointment of Datuk Mohd Roslan Mahayudin as its new director-general. Both appointments are effective May 1.
