Former Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) president Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan has been appointed as the new Mayor of Kuala Lumpur for a two-year term effective yesterday.

He succeeds Mayor Tan Sri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz who ended his service on Sept 30.

The appointment of Nor Hisham as the 12th Mayor of Kuala Lumpur received the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V in accordance with Part II, Section 4 (2) of the Federal Capital Act 1960.

The announcement was made by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad during the handing over duties ceremony for the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur today.

Nor Hisham, 62, retired in May last year after serving with MPSJ since 2014 on a two-year contract which was extended by another year due to excellent performance.

For the past 37 years, he has served in various government agencies at the federal and state levels including the Gombak District Land Office, the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department, Ministry of Federal Territories and the Selangor Office of State Secretary.

Khalid said that he was confident that Nor Hisham with 37 years of experience in particular with the Ministry of Federal Territories in 2006 would be able to lead Kuala Lumpur City Hall with excellence.

“With his outstanding service record, he will be able to raise Kuala Lumpur to a better level which is in line with the vision and mission of DBKL to transform Kuala Lumpur into a world-class city by 2020,” Khalid said.

In the meantime, Nor Hisham said that as mayor, he is open to any suggestions and criticisms from city dwellers so as to realise the capital city’s vision to be a world-class city.

“I welcome ideas from all DBKL staff especially in terms of administration and from city dwellers in general to modernise Kuala Lumpur.

“Issues related to the city such as homelessness and foreigners at Pasar Borong Selayang are believed can be handled with the help of the related local authorities,” he said.
