Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar today reminded PKR members to keep their emotions in check in the upcoming party election to avoid recurrence of fighting as was the case in the last party poll.

Last term’s party election at the end of 2018 was marred by incidents of fights which then dragged on until the party’s congress a year later.

Competition for positions in the party should take place in the spirit of family among party members because the main focus should be winning the 15th General Election (GE15), said the former PKR vice-president.

“We have to understand what we mean by the PKR family,” she said, when officiating the annual general meeting of PKR Gombak Branch, today.

She asked PKR members to understand that the party’s election this time will take place before GE15.

“We don’t want a meaningless victory as in to win at the party level but lose the general election,” she added.

Nurul urged PKR members to adhere to party discipline during the election.

“In life we have choices, we have to give dignity to choices (that are made), it’s not just a matter of short-term wins.

“Any movement should have organisational discipline,” she added.

During her press conference, Nurul said if someone in PKR lost the party election and affected PKR’s chances of winning GE15, they would be disappointed.

“I think many of us have the same concerns. In every fight, there are winners and losers, and one would feel more when they lose. We are human, “she said.

Nurul, however, declined to comment on the post she will contest in this year’s party election.

Nurul resigned as PKR vice president in December 2018, after being appointed as chairman of PKR Penang.
