Apparently, fugitive Jamal Yunos has joined the race to be Umno Youth chief.
A posting and an audio clip that is being shared widely on Facebook purportedly to be from the Sungai Besar Umno division chief throwing in his bid for the top Youth post in the Juen 23 party polls as well as membership into its supreme council.
Writing on Facebook, the 48-year-old Red Shirts leader said he wanted to help rebuild the spirit of Umno members.
“I, Jamal Md Yunos, offer myself as a candidate for the post of Umno Malaysia Youth chief for the term 2018-2021,” he wrote.
“Let us rise together for the sake of the virtuous struggle to help regain the support and trust of the people,” he said.
The incumbent Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is vacating the post to contest the party’s vice-presidency.
Jamal, who has been issued a warrant of arrest and is believed to have fled to the Indonesian island of Karimun Besar, will face incumbent deputy youth chief Khairul Azwan Harun and former deputy minister Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
