Pakatan Harapan (PH) must get the consent of the Election Commission (EC) for its plan to use a common logo for all four members of the alliance.

EC chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah said today that the commission had yet to receive official notice of Pakatan’s plans and had only known of it from news reports.

“We have not received any confirmation yet. But if any political party wants to use new or different logos, then they must get our approval first,” he said.

Last night, PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that the alliance would use the oval eye symbol of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

Hashim explained that political parties were registered under the Registrar of Societies (RoS), after which they should refer to the EC.

“If use of the symbol does not offend regulations, it would be approved,” he told a press conference in Putrajaya today

He was responding to a question on whether all four parties in PH can use one logo – which is PKR’s – during GE14.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) was issued a dissolution order from the RoS after the party had failed to furnish the RoS with necessary details to complete its registration. This also meant that PH’s registration as an opposition coalition was in jeopardy.
