Parliament will convene before the Emergency proclamation ends on Aug 1.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said details pertaining to this will be finalised during the Cabinet meeting next Wednesday.
“The Federal government has always upheld the views of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in all matters relating to the governance of the country, including in relation to the parliamentary session.
“In this regard, the Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) as the Head of Parliament, has decided to convene a Parliament sitting as soon as possible before Aug 1. This matter will be finalised in the Cabinet meeting on July 7,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Pakatan Harapan presidential council has urged lawmakers from both sides of the divide to meet in Parliament on July 19 if Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin doesn’t give a date for the house to sit.
The presidential council gave Muhyiddin until July 5 to give a reply to their request on when Parliament can meet again.
The statement was signed by PKR president and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
