Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun was named Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Port Dickson parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
This was announced by PH chairman and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during PH’s Jelajah Harapan Negri Sembilan programme in Port Dickson on Friday night.
“I had to pick a Port Dickson candidate of the same standard or even higher, than me. He (Aminuddin) didn’t ask for it, he actually pleaded not to be given to him.
“This is a good example and it won’t affect his work (as MB). He is from here and is menteri besar. The Port Dickson branch chief. This is how I honour Port Dickson.
“May we win in other areas as well. It’s not that we want positions, but to give better service (and so) we have only announced two seats, Tambun and Port Dickson,” he said.
Anwar had on Thursday night announced that he would contest in Tambun.
He had held the Port Dickson seat prior to the dissolution of the 14th Parliament, having won it in a seven-cornered fight by-election in October 2018, winning by a huge 23,560-vote majority.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Anwar said he was confident Aminuddin could win and retain the seat for PH.
“He is a good worker, a local, and he has always helped me in Port Dickson. InsyaAllah, he’ll win with style,” he said.
Earlier, Anwar said the decision for him to stand in Tambun is to try to win other areas in Perak, at the same time adding value to PH.
“Tambun now doesn’t belong to PH, but Bersatu, so if we can take Tambun, hopefully that would lead to us taking other areas (in Perak). We can’t just defend seats… we want to expand to others, but I know it won’t be easy,” he said.
