PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should contest for the presidential position in the party elections in August, said its deputy Youth chief.

Dr Afif Bahardin said the move would serve as preparation for Anwar to take over the Prime Minister’s post in future, succeeding Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“As a party under the ruling Government, we need to be prepared for the future.
“If Anwar Ibrahim is the candidate (for the next Prime Minister), then it is compulsory for him to first contest for the PKR president post.

“I believe PKR members will support this move, as it will mark his active return to the party,” said Dr Afif today.
The PKR party elections will be held by the end of August, while nomination of candidates will be held on July 29.
It was reported that candidates looking to contest in the polls had to pay as much as RM25,000 for the top posts and RM3,000 for positions at the branch level.
Rumour has it that Dr Afif might be eyeing the vice-president post, but he denied when prodded on the matter.
“I have not made up my mind which post to contest,” he added.
