Some civil servants want Pakatan toppled so corruption can return.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said there were some people who want to oust the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government because of its efforts to combat corruption.

These include civil servants who want the current government to fall because they no longer receive corrupt money, he says.

In fact, Dr Mahathir said, there were those who said the PH government was not as good as the previous administration because it rejected the immoral activity.

“When Pakatan Harapan took over the government, and the aim of the coalition is to eradicate corruption, and some in the service are not happy.

“There are some who feel that the government is not as good as the previous one because this government does not allow bribes.

“There are some who feel this government should not continue but (the country) should go back to a corrupt government which benefits them, ” he said.

The prime minister said this in his speech at the Townhall Gathering with Perak Civil Servants in Ipoh.

He said they felt the previous administration was far better because during that era they received extra income on top of their monthly salary.

He added that despite corruption being “haram“, certain fraction of the civil service had no problems with it.

The prime minister said the civil servants needed to say no to corruption, be loyal to the current government and implement policies approved for the betterment of the people and the development of the country.

He said corruption could destroy the development of the country and delay efforts to achieve what had been planned. In the end, the people would be the victims.

“Believe this, when leaders chosen by the people practise bribery, it is the rakyat who will pay the price,” he said.

“As we are aware, those involved in corruption are already being brought to court, and probably they will be punished.

“We must remember that those who are involved in corruption, it is their children and grandchildren who suffer,” he added.

He said the government was in the midst of cleaning up the system.

“As long as there is corruption, the country would not be able to develop as instructions would not be followed.

“Do not forsake the oath of loyalty to the government by neglecting the orders that have been given or not carrying out instructions or decisions because of a conflict of sentiments towards the previous administration.

“This is a form of betrayal of the trust given by the people. Stop the political games,” he said.

Dr Mahathir also said the wealth of the country must be shared among all regardless of race or religion.

He said the current government must be fair to all, and this would ensure that the country was peaceful without any pressure, riots or terrorism.

“If we don’t practise sharing of wealth equally, this will cause uneasiness between one another, and this could lead to the country becoming chaotic.

“That is why all our efforts in ensuring fair distribution of wealth and an administration free of corruption is a must,” he added.
