Police have confirmed that the son of PKR MP Rafizi Ramli was assaulted this afternoon at a shopping mall in Putrajaya.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the incident occurred at about 1.45pm in the mall’s pick-up and drop-off area.
“The incident occurred when the victim was reportedly with his mother and their driver,” he told Bernama. The 12-year-old boy is undergoing further examination at a hospital in Selangor but did not sustain any injuries.
“I confirm that the incident occurred. Investigations are ongoing, focusing on identifying the suspect,” Shazeli added.
Rafizi said the attack on his son was intended as a warning. He vowed he would “not bow to any threats” and would continue his duties as usual.
According to him, masked men approached his wife and son as they were getting into their car after leaving the mall. “Suddenly, a man grabbed my son and jabbed him with a syringe,” he said, adding that two men on a motorcycle had been following his wife’s car.
“In my view, the attack had been planned in advance,” he said, describing the assailants as dressed in all black with full-face helmets, “lying in wait” before rushing in to attack at the “right moment.”
His son was immediately taken to UPM Hospital for treatment. Police arrived soon after, and statements were taken from the family. Rafizi said further information should be provided by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and UPM Hospital.
“In all my years as a politician and public figure, this is the first time my family has been the target of such an attack and threat. I believe this assault was intended as a warning for me to stop speaking out on certain issues,” he said.
Rafizi expressed his gratitude to PDRM and UPM Hospital for their swift action and thanked supporters for their messages. “God willing, while I will be taking further steps to strengthen security measures, I will not bow to any threats and will continue to carry out my duties as usual,” he said.
