Police have identified 55,000 close contacts of Covid-19 patients, including from the tabligh cluster, said Abdul Hamid Bador.

The inspector-general of police said the data was analysed by a task force from the Criminal Investigation Department before it was handed over to the Health Ministry.

“Through the analysis by the task force, we were able to trace the possible close contacts and assist the ministry, in particular regarding persons under surveillance and patients under investigation.

“We are also helping the ministry monitor individuals who disobey the movement-control order,” he told a special press conference at Bukit Aman yesterday.

He said the force will help identify those most likely to have contracted the coronavirus.

To date, he said, 44 police officers have tested positive, and another 900 ordered to self-quarantine at home.

“They include an inspector who tested positive today. His close contacts have been ordered to undergo quarantine at home.”
