Re-arrested for CBT instead.
The case of a man claiming to be an international human organ trafficker has taken a new twist, with Sarawak police commissioner Aidi Ismail refuting the suspect’s assertion.
The 48-year-old, who has been remanded since August 14 to facilitate investigations into allegations made by British tabloid The Sun, has been rearrested for criminal breach of trust in a different case following the expiry of his remand today.

“Investigations over the last 12 days found that the man’s claim of involvement in a global organ trafficking ring is false,” said Aidi in a statement.
He said none of the testimonies obtained by investigators showed the suspect’s involvement in any such syndicate, as reported by The Sun on August 8.
“Investigations also found that the suspect made false claims during his interview with The Sun. Police have contacted the reporter, who gave his full cooperation.”

On the suspect’s re-arrest this morning, Aidi said it is in connection with a 2013 case, where the man, who was then working for the state Insolvency Department, allegedly issued payment vouchers worth RM249,101.25 to individuals unrelated to the department.
“An investigation paper on CBT was submitted to the state deputy public prosecutor on Monday, and a decision has been made to charge the suspect under Section 409 of the Penal Code.”
He said the suspect will be charged tomorrow and faces a penalty of between two and 20 years’ imprisonment, caning and a fine upon conviction.
