SOP under review after latest case of quarantine escapees.

The National Security Council may tighten its standard operating procedure to put a stop to cases of people fleeing quarantine centres.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said NSC will study the latest incident, in which seven foreigners escaped.

“Previously, two men escaped from Selangor Mansion, and they have since been detained. Surely this time, police will catch them, too.

“NSC will of course look into this seriously. There may need to be a change to the SOP and a tightening of the regulation,” he said in Putrajaya this afternoon.

It was today reported that seven Indonesians and Bangladeshis ran away from a quarantine centre in Kuala Lumpur, the facility’s second such incident.

They were ordered quarantined until tomorrow, as they were living with those who suspected of being positive for Covid-19 at Selangor Mansion, Menara City One and Kg Baru.

Doctors making their rounds found the men missing at 10am yesterday.

They allegedly cut a perimeter fence during sahur and escaped. They have yet to be rounded up.

A Bangladeshi who escaped from the centre on Saturday also remains missing.
