Couple Who Grew Ganja Plants in Condo Facing Death Sentence

Duo with online cosmetics business charged with several drug offences.


A married couple was charged at the sessions court in Petaling Jaya on Friday with growing 38 ganja plants inside their unit at Zefer Condominium, Jalan Pipit 4, Bandar Baru Puchong Jaya, at about 7 pm on Jun 12.

Mohamed Syazzwan Mohamed Nasir, 29 and his wife, Farah Nadhrah Ahmad Puad, 31, pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries a sentence of life imprisonment and a minimum of six strokes of the rotan, if convicted.

Syazzwan and Farah were also charged in the same court with trafficking drugs weighing 1.5 kg at the same time and place.

The charge under Section 39b (1)(a) of the same Act carries the death penalty.

However, no plea was recorded as the case is within the jurisdiction of a High Court.

Meanwhile, in a different court, Syazzwan claimed trial to possession of 0.89 kg of ganja at the New Wave Hotel, 40 Jalan Utama SR 1/9, Taman Serdang Raya, Seri Kembangan, at about 5 pm of the same day.

The charge under Section 6 of the Act carries a maximum fine of RM20,000, or a jail term of five years, or both, if convicted.

No bail was allowed to the duo and their case was fixed for mention on Aug 8.

The couple, who operate an online cosmetics business, is believed to have learned how to grow the drugs from the Internet.
