Previously jailed for nine years for raping his daughter, a grandfather is now charged with molesting his seven-year-old granddaughter along with his son who is also charged with molesting the same child, who is his niece.
Two men were charged at the Subordinate Court in Sibu yesterday with sexually molesting a seven-year-old girl, their granddaughter and niece, under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
The 53-year old grandfather is facing four charges under Section 14 of the Act, which carries a jail term of not more than 20 years or whipping.
He is also facing four charges under Section 16 of the same Act, which is punishable with imprisonment of not less than five years and no less than two strokes of the rotan.
According to the facts of the case, the accused had allegedly touched the private parts of the victim from May to July at his longhouse in Durin.
The victim’s uncle, 26, is also facing four charges under Section 14 and five charges under Section 16 of the same Act, for similar offences committed from May to August.
The uncle faces an additional charge under Section 15 of the same Act, which carries a jail term not exceeding 10 years or a fine of not more than RM20,000. Under this charge, the uncle was alleged to have forced the victim to watch a pornographic video clip on his handphone between May and August 2017.
The girl’s ordeal came to light when she related her woes to her mother who has been living separately from her daughter following her divorce from her husband seven years ago.
At that time, the victim was staying in the grandfather’s house while her mother was staying in Mukah.
It was when the 27-year-old housewife took her daughter to Mukah during the school holidays that the girl confided in her of her ordeal.
Police subsequently arrested the grandfather at his longhouse and the uncle from his workplace at a timber factory.
In another case at the same court later on Tuesday, Yaw Swee Kuong, 33, was charged under Section 14 of the same Act for touching the private parts of a 17-year-old learning-impaired girl at about 9.30am to 11am on Sept 7 at the Bukit Lima Sports Complex.
He had also pleasured himself in front of her, an offence under Section 15 of the same Act.
No plea was taken by any of the three accused, who will be presented at the Sessions Court today for further mention of their cases.
