Armed only with axe and knife, three men rob delivery truck of 10kg gold worth RM2mil.

Updated: The getaway car used by the robbers was found in Ampang Jajar, about 4km from the scene of the crime. The red car, with some clothes in it, was found at the People’s Housing Project (PPR) at about 2pm yesterday. The back of the car was badly damaged as the driver had reversed into another car while escaping the scene after the robbery.

According to eyewitnesses, two men from a delivery truck had just come out of the business premises of a goldsmith supplier located on the second floor when three suspects in a red car stopped beside the truck, The Star reported.

The incident happened on Jalan Siram in Butterworth at about 9.30am this morning.

A suspect armed with an axe and another with a knife got down from the car and robbed the truck, fleeing with two bags containing an estimated 10kg of gold worth about RM2mil.

Eyewitnesses said that a licensed security officer passing by the scene saw the incident and fired a few shots from his handgun.

A police forensics team has cordoned off the area and is gathering evidence at the scene.
