The media had gathered early while cartoonist Zunar had a gift in hand, all waiting for the former prime minister’s wife to make her first public appearance in almost a month.
Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor arrived at the anti-graft body’s headquarters today at 10.45am to have her statement recorded to the authorities over a corruption probe.
Arriving 15 minutes ahead of her appointment, Rosmah came in a silver Mercedes-Benz S Class escorted by Proton Exora and a Kia Sportage.
Clad in a dark blue baju kurung and red headscarf, Rosmah, who is the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, was a picture of calm as she stepped into the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) building.
Knowing her penchant for luxury handbags, especially the super exclusive Hermes Birkin, all eyes were on the crimson bag she was carrying.
Speculation has it that it bore a striking resemblance to Versace’s Demetra bag from the Italian brand’s Vanitas line, with a price tag of about RM10,000.
Rosmah was accompanied by her daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib and Kazakh son-in-law Daniyar Kessikbayev and her team of lawyers.
She walked into the lobby area, spent few minutes with some MACC officers and was then escorted into an interview room – the same one where Najib gave his statement on May 22 and 24.
Sources said Rosmah has been called to answer queries on SRC International as well.
Security at the MACC headquarters has been tightened, with reporters having to record their names at the main gate and their bags checked.
Officials said this is to ensure that only accredited reporters are allowed in for the coverage.
Meanwhile, cartoonist Zunar, whose caricatures of Rosmah brought him fame as well as trouble with the previous government, was at the MACC HQ, hoping to meet Rosmah ahead of her session with graft investigators.
Wearing a specially made T-shirt with the words ‘I love Rosmah’, he also brought with him a copy of his work ‘Ketawa Pink Pink’, a collection of cartoons he said was “inspired by Rosmah”, saying he hoped to present it to her.
He was disappointed after being barred from entering the MACC premises because he had no press pass.
