Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the announcement by Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on the CMCO comes as a surprise to the state government, which had considered proposing that the ruling be imposed only in the Petaling district where cases had spiked.

“The (announcement) came when I had just finished chairing the Selangor-level National Security Council (NSC) meeting with the state Health Department, police, Armed Forces as well as other agencies to enforce the CMCO in the Petaling district. This was because there has been a drastic increase in Covid-19 infections, which are a concern.

“The announcement on the CMCO in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya earlier was a surprise to the state government. This was because the conclusion of the meeting was that only Klang, Gombak, Hulu Langat and parts of Petaling had a worrying number of cases.

“It should be noted that in today’s meeting there was a consensus that several proposals are being considered to be forwarded to the National Security Council (NSC) for their consideration,” he said in a statement.

Amirudin said the state government considers several districts, including Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor, to be green and yellow zone, where the spread of Covid-19 is under control.

“Therefore, the state government will send feedback proposals to the NSC for reconsideration.”

Amirudin said while the state government hoped that all parties would be ready to embrace change in the fight against Covid-19, he hoped that there would be more transparent communication.

“The state government also appreciates a more effective and conclusive crisis communication involving all parties.

“This is so that all decisions made would not lead to any form of implementation uncertainty that would impact the frontliners, the rakyat and even more so, the small and medium industry operators,” he said.

Selangor today recorded 69 new cases out of the country’s total of 563 fresh infections.
