A senior citizen was arrested for driving against traffic and causing two accidents yesterday afternoon.

Police said the 73-year-old man was found driving against traffic on the Kemuning Shah Alam Expressway (LKSA) heading towards Shah Alam city centre at about 5pm, causing accidents at Km3.1 and Km6.6 of the highway.

“In the first accident at Km3.1, a 33-year-old motorist was injured when the Honda City he was driving overturned while trying to avoid the Perodua Kelisa driven by the senior citizen.

“In an accident at Km6.6, a Perodua Myvi collided with the car after failing to swerve in time,” Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Baharudin Mat Taib said in a statement.

Baharudin said an initial investigation found the man lost his way while heading to a supermarket in Section 13 Shah Alam and accidentally drove into the expressway when he realised he did not have a Touch ‘n Go card.

He then decided to turn back and drive against traffic to return home in Section 8.

A 1-minute-and-7-second video of the incident, captured by a passing motorist, was uploaded to social media and has since gone viral.
