Short-lived joy for robbers who pulled off a daring heist at a jeweller’s in a shopping mall.

At around 10.40am yesterday, four men wearing helmets with dark visors and black hand gloves barged into Wah Chan Gold & Jewellery store on the ground floor of Aeon Big shopping complex, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras.
The robbers started smashing display cases with sledgehammers and scooping allegedly over RM3 million worth of jewellery.

One of the suspects also fired his gun five times to intimidate the store’s security guard. In the store’s CCTV footage, it appears that the guard scuttled out of the outlet as soon as the robbers started ransacking the store.

The video also shows the store employees crouching on the floor behind the display cases.
The heist took around three minutes after which the robbers escaped with their loot.

However, their joy was short-lived as they were arrested three hours later.
Acting on a public tip-off, police raided a house at Kampung Lalang, Dengkil, at around 2pm and apprehended seven suspects.

“We also retrieved a stash of jewellery and seized weapons like sledgehammers and firearms during the arrest,” Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said.

“For now, the forensic team and CID team are gathering evidence and concluding the probe. We expect an official statement from the Selangor police chief Commissioner Mazlan Mansor tomorrow,” he added.
