According to Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Shahurinain Jais, police received a distress call after the victim was found dead in a hotel room at about 7.18am on Dec 31.

“The case was initially classified as a sudden death before Hospital Sultan Ismail

forensics confirmed that the victim had died due to strangulation.

“Following this, two suspects were detained at the Taman Setia Indah police station,” he said in a statement today.

Shahurinain said that initial investigations showed that one of the suspects, a 49-year-old salesman, checked in at the hotel at about 4.50pm on Dec 29.

“After half an hour, the victim arrived and entered the room, where the two then had sexual intercourse.

“Checks on CCTV also showed that the 49-year-old got help from the other suspect, a 36-year-old, to carry the victim’s body to another room,” he added.

Shahurinain said the two suspects would be remanded to assist in investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“Witnesses at the crime scene have also been called in to get their statements recorded,” he said.
