Police have identified the suspect arrested for carrying a girl at a mosque in Batang Kali, as seen in a viral video, as a 19-year-old youth.

Hulu Selangor police chief Superintendent Ahmad Faizal Tahrim confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault involving inappropriate touching of a child.

The suspect will be brought before the magistrate’s court in Kuala Kubu Baru tomorrow for a remand order.

“Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact the Hulu Selangor police headquarters at 03-6065 1021 or the nearest police station,” Ahmad Faizal said in a statement.

Earlier today, he confirmed the suspect’s arrest to assist in the investigation.

The incident took place while the girl was in the prostration position at the back of the women’s prayer row. CCTV footage from the mosque, which has circulated on social media, captured the moment a man wearing a white skullcap entered the women’s prayer area, grabbed the victim from behind, and took her outside.

At the time, the girl was praying alone in the back row, making the act go unnoticed by the other women. The suspect then attempted to sexually assault her but fled when she resisted.
