This was announced following the first meeting of the Cabinet’s special committee regarding the NRP (JKKPPN) which was held through video conferencing and chaired by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

In this new role, which was agreed upon by the Cabinet meeting, Tengku Zafrul will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of strategy and aid, and taking intervention measures that are proactive and suited to the dynamic Covid-19 pandemic situation, the PMO said.

The special Cabinet committee on the recovery plan was set up to ensure the country exits the Covid-19 pandemic in phases and systematically while taking into account the existence of new more virulent variants of the virus.

The meeting also decided to strengthen cooperation among subject matter experts on health, economy and social matters to enable feedback and measure the effectiveness of measures to battle the pandemic, such as patient management in hospitals and vaccination of the population.

The inclusion of the role of these professionals, especially on health and economy, will ensure the government is on the right track in responding to the impact of the pandemic, the PMO said.
