Terengganu and Kelantan See Increase in Flood Evacuees

600 and 13,738 people displaced in Terengganu and Kelantan respectively, with three rivers above warning levels in Terengganu and Sg Golok in Kelantan remaining at danger level.

Terengganu saw a slight increase in the number of flood evacuees as at 8am today, with 600 people from 169 families compared to 503 from 149 families at 10 pm yesterday.

The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the evacuees were being housed at 11 relief centres in six districts, namely Besut, Marang, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Dungun and Setiu.

Marang had the largest number of evacuees, 368 from 108 families at four centres, following by Setiu with 65 people from 14 families at two centres and Kuala Nerus with 54 people from 14 families at two centres.

Dungun had 47 people from 12 families at one centre; Kuala Terengganu, 45 people from 15 families at one centre and Besut, 21 people from six families at one centre.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department reported that at 9am, the level of Sungai Nerus in Kampung Langkap, Setiu, was 21.44 metres, higher than the warning point of 20.75 metres while the level of Sungai Chalok in Setiu was 8.10 metres, above the warning level of 7.70 metres.

The level of Sungai Marang at the Pengkalan Berangan Bridge was 2.39 metres, above the warning point of 2.30 metres.

In Kelantan, the number of flood evacuees also rose a little this morning, with 13,736 as at 8 am compared to 13,614 at 9pm yesterday.

All the evacuees are being accommodated at 61 relief centres in six districts, namely Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh and Gua Musang.

The ‘infobanjir’ application of the Social Welfare Department reported that Pasir Mas had the highest number of evacuees, 9,236 from 3,909 families at 36 centres, following by Tumpat with 3,302 evacuees from 1,152 families at eight centres.

Pasir Puteh had 814 evacuees from 242 families at eight centres; Kota Bharu, 200 evacuees from 61 families at three centres; Gua Musang, 100 evacuees from 23 families at three centres and Tanah Merah, 84 evacuees from 24 families at three centres.

The infobanjir.water.gov.my portal of the Drainage and Irrigation Department reported that the level of Sungai Golok at Rantau Panjang was 10.34 metres at 8 am, higher than the 10.24 metres at 9 pm yesterday. the danger level is nine metres. It also said that the level of Sungai Golok at Kuala Jambu, Tumpat, had dropped to 3.55 metres from 3.66 metres at 9 pm yesterday. The danger level is 2.50 metres.
