Police are on a manhunt for two car thieves who inadvertently killed a 39-year-old woman in a crash at Km9.9 of the SILK Highway in Kajang yesterday morning.
Early yesterday morning, a 17-year-old girl alerted police that her house in Taman Cheras Perdana was broken into and that two men stole her father’s car, a white Toyota Estima.
At 7.10am, traffic police who went to the scene of a fatal accident on the highway discovered that one of the cars involved was the Estima reported stolen earlier.
Preliminary investigations showed that the driver of the stolen vehicle was speeding on the highway before the car rammed into the back of a Proton Saga, killing the woman driver.
The impact of the crash caused the Estima to hit the road divider and land in a drain on the side of the highway.
The suspects fled the scene following the accident.
Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the victim died at the scene and her body was sent to the Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem, which revealed that the woman had died from severe head injuries.
Dzaffir urged witnesses to come forward to assist in the police investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, and Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
