Caught in the act by a video that has gone viral, three men broke a clamp on the wheel of their vehicle and coolly drove off.
In the three-minute video, one of the men was spotted taking out his own toolkit and used a sledgehammer to break the clamp on the wheel of their Proton Wira in Jalan Lumut on Monday.
Unperturbed by curious onlookers, the men took turns to hit the clamp until they were able to break it. Then, along with two women, they got into the car and drove off nonchalantly.
It was learnt that a police report was lodged by the parking authorities on the matter.
Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan, the welfare arm of the Federal Territories Ministry, appointed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to streamline the city’s parking, said it will leave it to the police to investigate the case, the New Straits Times reported.
Its consultant, Datuk Nik Haidi Nik Mohamed said details on the location and registration number of the car have been included in the police report.
“We were lucky that we have identified the plate number through the video which went viral on social media.
“We have handed this matter over to the police to take further action,” Nik Haidi was quoted saying.
