Another doctor with Covid-19 in ICU.

All paediatric wards at the Selayang Hospital were closed after two of its personnel contracted Covid-19.

This was confirmed by hospital director Dr Sakinah Alwi in an internal letter to Selangor’s Health Department director and deputy director (public health).

The letter was also addressed to all Selayang Hospital department directors.

“I regret to announce that two personnel have been confirmed positive with Covid-19.”

“As a result, the paediatric department will be closing all its wards. We will not be taking in new referrals or patients and those (patients) in the wards will not be allowed home until our investigations are complete.

“The Emergency and Trauma Department will also refer paediatric cases to other hospitals,” she said.

Dr Sakinah added that she regrets the inconvenience caused and appreciates the corporation of all parties.

On Friday. Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that 15 health workers, including 12 from the ministry, are infected with the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, a physician in Perak is the second healthcare professional to be placed under breathing support at the intensive care unit (ICU), said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The physician was among the two cases currently warded at the ICU of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh.

The two were among the 45 cases reported in Perak as of noon yesterday.

“One of the ICU patients is an emergency physician from a Health Ministry hospital in Perak,” he said in a Facebook post.

The second case is that of a 63-year-old man who attended the tabligh event at the Sri Petaling mosque.

“Both patients are in critical but stable condition.”

He has dismissed a social media post alleging a death has taken place at the hospital.

The total number of cases in Malaysia has exceeded 1,000 with three fatalities reported so far.
