Viral Video of Horrific Snatch Theft That Left Elderly Woman Bloodied

Man captured on CCTV footage snatching a woman’s handbag arrested along with his brother cum accomplice.

A video of a man snatching a woman’s handbag in Kota Baru, Kelantan, has gone viral on social media.

In the two-minute, five-second video, the man is seen alighting from a vehicle parked in front of the victim’s car.

The suspect, clad in a black t-shirt, sneaks up behind the woman and lunges for her handbag which she is carrying on the crook of her elbow.

The violent tug causes the woman to fall onto the tarred road, where she is seen lying motionless for about half a minute.

Meanwhile, the suspect escapes in a black Proton Persona, which is driven by a suspected accomplice.

The woman attempts to get up but falls into a drain underneath her.

A picture posted on social media shows the 72-year-old victim sitting on a pavement with blood flowing down her face.

The footage of the incident, which took place along Jalan Hamzah in Taman Limau Manis on Feb 25, was recorded by a nearby closed-circuit television camera.

According to the China Press, police arrested the 33-year-old suspect, along with his 25-year-old brother who drove the getaway car, within an hour from the 1.40pm incident.

The video had left netizens outraged, with some having conducted their own investigation into the getaway car which number plate was clearly seen in the video.

It was discovered that the car belonged to a 59-year-old man.

Police later revealed that the car belongs to the elder brother’s father-in-law and it was not reported stolen.

The brothers were picked up at the father-in-law’s residence in Kota Bharu.

Both siblings tested positive for methamphetamine.

The elder brother had three prior criminal records, two under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and one under the Penal Code for theft.

The younger brother had no prior criminal record.

The victim sustained injuries to the left side of her head and was admitted to hospital for treatment.
