Police are investigating a video that was shared online showing a man removing Barisan Nasional (BN) flags in Taman Tun Dr Ismail and throwing them to the ground.

City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said they have received three reports over the incident.

“The case occurred on Sunday along Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.

“Reports were lodged by the person who took the video, the person who put up the flags as well as an Umno Youth representative,” he said.

Mazlan was speaking to reporters at the City police Contingent Headquarters today.

“The suspect should have informed to Kuala Lumpur City Hall to take action if he was unsatisfied but instead took matters into his own hand,” he added.

He urged anyone with information on the man in the video to come forward.

“We are investigating the case under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and damage,” he said.

Political party flags and banners may not yet be installed as the official campaign period for the 14th general election has not begun and is pending the Election Commission’s (EC) announcement of the official nomination and polling dates.

Mazlan said that any alleged offence for putting up political party flags before an election campaign period fell under the jurisdiction of Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

In the 41-second video, the man, who appears agitated, is seen removing Barisan flags and throwing them to the ground.

The man also flashes a rude hand gesture to the person taking the video before continuing to remove the flags.
