A photo of a business card of Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz’s wife, Datin Seri Haflin Saiful, went viral today but Nazri says it’s fake.
The card has the name Datin Seri Haflin S and a small picture of her, with her designation being Spouse-Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia. It also has the address of the ministry’s office in Putrajaya, together with two contact numbers – one a Malaysian line and the other French – and an email address.
The name card was uploaded to Facebook by former New Straits Times group editor Mustapha Kamil.
He captioned the photograph with a message condemning any form of interference in national matters by a public official’s spouse, saying it was an indication that the country was heading towards becoming a failed state.
Nazri has denied that his office issued business cards for his wife.
He said his ministry was not permitted to issue any type of business card to a non-officer.
“She doesn’t work for the ministry. It is fake.
“There are always people out there who try to get us,” Nazri told The Star Online.
“Any card that comes out of my ministry must get my permission.
“But I never gave permission for this to be issued and my wife never asked for it,” he told FMT news portal.
On Mustapha’s statement, he said he himself did not condone such a practice.
He said neither he nor his wife knows how the card came about but said anyone could create an image and post it on the Internet, purporting it as genuine.
