A woman allegedly forced her 14-year-old daughter into prostitution to settle her own ‘mounting debts’ in Limbang.

Initial police investigations revealed the victim, a school dropout who worked as a waitress at a karaoke lounge in Lawas, has been forced to offer sex to a man since April.

For her ‘services’, the girl was paid a sum of money via a karaoke lounge owner whereby, part of the money was handed over to the victim’s mother.

Sarawak CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar said since April, the teenager was forced to sleep with the man in return for money on three occasions.

He said the case came to light after the village headman brought the victim to lodge a police report at 10.55am on Sunday.

“The ketua kampung brought the girl to the police after he learnt about her plight. The girl said she was forced by her own mother to provide sex,” Dev said in a statement.

He revealed that the victim said she was raped three times by a man in a hotel and that the man paid the karaoke owner RM1,000.

“According to villagers, her mother had serious money problems from her many debts,” added the CID chief.

Following the victim’s report, the 30-year-old mother was picked up in front of a hair salon in Jalan Liaw Kim Liu at 2.15pm.

At about 3pm, the police nabbed the 45-year-old karaoke lounge owner at a shop in Jalan Haji Matussin.

The duo were held at the Lawas police lockup and would be brought to court today for an extension of the remand pending detailed investigation.

Police are now searching for the man who had paid to have sex.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape and Section 43(1)(a) and (d) of the Child Act 2001.
