After a service at the family’s residence where Yeoh Tiong Lay’s eldest son Francis Yeoh, grandchildren and close friend Datuk Lee Peng Hock delivered their eulogies, the funeral procession began at 1pm, passing YTL Group’s landmark buildings in Sentul, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Bukit Bintang where staff of JW Marriott and Starhill Gallery lined up outside the premises as a mark of respect.
The remains of YTL Corporation Bhd founder Tan Sri Dr Yeoh Tiong Lay were laid to rest at the Xiao En Memorial Park at 4.40pm yesterday.
The founder of the giant conglomerate died on Wednesday at the age of 88.
The hearse bearing his remains arrived at the cemetery at 3.15pm. The funeral procession comprised 40 cars and eight buses.
About 1,000 people, comprising family members and friends were present at the funeral. However, due to health issues, his wife Tan Kai Yong could not be present.
All present observed silence for two minutes followed by wreaths placed near his final resting place.
Among the VIPs present were Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili, IOI Group executive chairman Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng, Lion Group Malaysia chairman Tan Sri William Cheng, and Cambodian Ambassador to Malaysia, Princess Norodom Arunrasmy.
The funeral ceremony started at 10am at the family residence in Lorong Buloh Perindu 1, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur, which was attended by about 3,000 people.
Prior to this, more than 12,000 people turned up to pays their last respects over the past four days at the family’s home.
