The founder of YTL Corporation Bhd, billionaire Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay has passed away peacefully at age 87.
Yeoh founded YTL in 1955 as a small construction company. The company has since become one of Malaysia’s largest conglomerates with interest in construction, hotels, property management, utilities and technology.
With a net worth of US$2 billion (RM8.2 billion), Yeoh is the seventh richest person in Malaysia, according to Forbes.
He is survived by his wife Puan Sri Tan Kai Yong and seven children, among them Tan Sri Francis Yeoh who now helms the company.
His family members said in a statement today: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of the head of our family, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr Yeoh Tiong Lay, but comforted that he has gone home to our Lord Jesus Christ.
“We are four generations that have had the privilege of enjoying his presence for 88 years and he will be truly missed.”
Family members and friends can pay their last respects on Thursday, Oct 19, from 7pm onwards at 2 Lorong Buloh Perindu 1, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur.
Wake services will be held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8.30pm.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, Oct 22 at 10am and the cortege will then depart to Nilai Memorial Park at 12pm.
