Umno is expected to make a drastic political move following the conviction of Datuk Seri Najib Razak on seven charges related to the misappropriation of RM42 million of SRC International Bhd funds, today.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he hopes that members of the party will accept any decision and keep an open mind on any possible outcome.
He said that Umno respects the court’s decision and will be discussing the party’s direction as a result.
“I sympathise and feel sad not only as an Umno president, but more importantly, because he (Najib) is my friend.
“As Najib had said, this is not the end of the world. There are other processes after this,” he said when met outside of the courthouse.
“Umno will have to do something, wait for our decision, which we have to discuss first.
“What we plan to do will be part of efforts to steer the direction of the present government,” Zahid told reporters.
