PAS must come out and explain allegations of a “dedak cartel” (money politics) in the Islamist party, says PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said although PAS believed this was an internal party matter, it had spread to the public sphere.

“Now it is already in the public sphere and it involves funds from other parties as the allegations stated.

“The matter now involves the interest of the public as they want to know about the source of the fund,” Anwar told reporters after attending the National Youth Conference 2019 on Wednesday (May 15).

PAS has imposed a gag order on its members to stop discussions and debates related to party matters across all media platform.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan on Tuesday (May 14) said the gag order took effect immediately.

PAS’ order came in the wake of fresh allegations of existence of “dedak (money politics) cartel” in the party brought up by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s son-in-law, Zaharudin Muhammad.

“Any views, opinion, suggestion and even criticism should be forwarded through party channels at various levels.

“This is part of the party discipline, where freedom of speech is assured while at the same time, we control and protect the confidentiality within the organisation,” Takiyuddin said in a statement on Tuesday (May 14). – The Star
