We’re just two months into the Year of the Rooster and already two ‘chickens’ have taken the Internet by storm. First was the catchy ‘Chicken Attack‘ song which went viral on YouTube, amassing more than seven million views to date. Then came the giant chicken clip which was first posted several days ago on a Facebook group and has already been viewed an astonishing 81 million times.
First thought to be a hoax, the footage of the enormous chicken emerging from a coop was filmed in Kosovo. Named Merakli, it is a Brahma chicken – a particularly large breed of bird often referred to as the ‘King of All Poultry’. While the average chicken can weigh anywhere between 1.5 to eight pounds, a male Brahma chicken can weigh up to a staggering 18 pounds. Besides its massive size, the most prominent features of the chicken are its huge claws and plumes.
