A businessman at the centre of a defamation suit against former prime minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor has made a startling admission that he had gifted millions of ringgit worth of luxury items to the couple in exchange for contracts.
Deepak’s startling claims:
- Najib and Rosmah demanded certain gratifications for giving him various concessions
- Gifts to Rosmah included a house and an RM2 million Bentley Flying Spur
- Names of Najib and Rosmah’s relatives used to register the property and car
- Rosmah can even get senior government officers sacked
- Many other businessmen ready to make exposures in court of being victimised by Najib and Rosmah
In an interview with an international news broadcaster that has yet to be aired, Deepak Jaikishan claimed that he had given the couple close to RM300 million in cash, jewellery, luxury cars and properties in Malaysia and the United Kingdom.
“I have been given various concessions, and he demanded certain gratifications,” said Deepak, who recently filed an RM656 million suit against Najib, Rosmah and two others, alleging interference in a property deal that caused his company to suffer huge losses.
He said among the gifts were a house in Malaysia and a Bentley Flying Spur, which is priced close to RM2 million in Malaysia, which he said was bought for Rosmah.
He named two relatives of the couple, whose names he said were used to register the car and the property.
Deepak, who said he has documentary proofs to back his allegations, said he was “defrauded” in two instances, adding that his complaints with the authorities were ignored.
“They too couldn’t do anything. If you know Datin Rosmah, she can get very brutal, even the senior government officers can be sacked,” he said.
Deepak said one of the contracts involved accommodation for government-sponsored students abroad.
“The contract was worth RM4.5 billion but it was cancelled,” he said in the clip of the interview that was leaked on social media and seen by FMT.
Another contract was linked to the suit he filed on Oct 12 against Najib, Rosmah, Boustead Holdings and Bakti Development Wira Sdn Bhd, over a property deal which he said caused losses to his company, Astacanggih Sdn Bhd.
“After paying the money for this land, it was sold to another company. I lodged a report and again, nothing happened.”
Deepak said he was not the only victim of the former leader, adding that many other businessmen are ready to make exposures in court.
When contacted, Najib dismissed the accusations as baseless, saying the claims in his suits were also “complete fabrication”.
“His accusations are illogical and he is only seeking to cast aspersions against my wife and me with his claims. We won’t stand for it,” he told FMT.
Najib pointed out that Boustead and its subsidiary Bakti Wira Development, also refuted Deepak’s claims as “baseless, frivolous, vexatious and unjustifiable”. – FMT
