Dr Mahathir Mohamad did not hold any secret meetings with Perikatan Nasional leaders during his Langkawi visit over the weekend, said an aide to the former prime minister.

Adam Mukhriz Mohd Muhayeddin, in a Facebook post, also dismissed claims that his boss had planned a holiday with Mohamed Azmin Ali on the Kedah island.

“The officer accompanying Dr Mahathir confirmed that there was no meeting, whether formal or informal.

“Dr Mahathir’s trip to Langkawi was last-minute. Speculation that he had planned a holiday with Azmin is completely untrue.”

He was responding to social media chatter that the Langkawi MP held a secret meeting with Azmin, the de facto deputy prime minister in the PN government, and Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.

Azmin and Hishammuddin helped Muhyiddin Yassin form the PN government after the collapse of the Dr Mahathir-led Pakatan Harapan administration in late February.

Photos shared online showed Hishammuddin shaking hands with an individual from Dr Mahathir’s group, as well as of Azmin’s entourage and Dr Mahathir himself. However, there are no pictures of all three leaders together.
