The Anti-Fake News Act 2018 may have come into force just a day ago, but that did not deter someone from disseminating fake posters alleging that 5,000 free bras would be distributed at an Umno event this Sunday.
The poster also has the words “jom pi periksa dada, dapat terus sarung dada” (northern Malay slang for “Let’s get your breasts checked, and then get free bras”) with a man wearing a Barisan Nasional (BN) shirt and the name of one “Dato’ Sri Hj Ustaz Amran bin Nordin” beside it.
Permatang Pauh BN coordinator Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said said the poster first appeared on Facebook, and later, was shared via WhatsApp.
“My team found about 60 postings of this fake poster and it has been shared numerous times since this afternoon,” he told the Malay Mail.
He said it was obviously photoshopped from his original poster of an event on April 15 at SK Permatang Tok Kandu.
The original poster showed Mohd Zaidi as well as his name together with an offer for 5,000 free eyeglasses.
The wording of the original poster was instead “jom pi periksa mata, dapat terus cermin mata” (“Let’s get our eyes checked, and then get free spectacles”).
The original white spectacles icon was replaced by a white bra in the doctored poster instead.
“It is so ironic that the anti-fake news law comes into force today and people are already spreading fake posters,” he said.
He added that he did not know whose face had been superimposed onto his in the fake poster.
“I don’t know who is this ‘Dato’ Sri Hj Ustaz Amran bin Nordin’. There is no such person in Umno but I think whoever’s face they put on the fake poster should also lodge a police report,” he said.
Mohd Zaidi said he will be lodging a police report over the fake “free bra” poster at the Central Seberang Perai district police headquarters in Bandar Perda.
Permatang Pauh Umno Youth posted both the original and fake posters side by side on their Facebook page, labelling the free bra poster as “Poster Palsu” (fake poster) and the original poster as “Poster Sebenar” (real poster). – MMO
