Hamzah confirms his accounts have been frozen

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has confirmed that his bank accounts along with his wife’s accounts have been frozen by authorities.

He said their accounts had been frozen since Wednesday (Aug 23), claiming that the move was due to “pressure and interference of high-level political leaders” in the administration.

“The freeze (of accounts) which was then informed to the media is a desperate attempt by the government led by (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim to continue to pressure the leadership of Perikatan Nasional which is gaining the people’s trust more and more.

“This is a dirty tactic to create a bad perception towards Perikatan. More so after the majority support of the people has shifted to us,” he claimed on Thursday (Aug 24).

In the just concluded six state polls, Perikatan won 146 out of the total 245 state seats.

Hamzah alleged the move was a political prosecution in nature and similar to the case against Perikatan chairman and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Attorney-General’s Chambers were made use of to create slander towards Perikatan leaders,” he further alleged.

Hamzah believed that more politically motivated actions would be taken against him and other Perikatan leaders, including using police to investigate him for criticising DAP during campaigns in the recent state elections.

“Actions by the Pakatan Harapan – Barisan Nasional government will not stop my struggles. For the sake of the nation and the people, I will continue to fight,” he added.

Hamzah said that a letter of demand to the MACC, its chief commissioner and the government.

It was reported on Wednesday that bank accounts of an Opposition leader and his family members were frozen by the Inland Revenue Board.

The frozen accounts are believed to be a part of an ongoing investigation by the MACC. – The Star
