Najib Abdul Razak lost his composure several times during an interview with Al Jazeera for its ‘101 East‘ programme today, according to the media organisation.

  • Najib “visibly irritated” by the question regarding the infamous “pink diamond”
  • Interviewer had been deported for her documentary ‘Murder in Malaysia’ on Altantuya’s murder
  • Najib expressed no regret for deportation, calling interviewer “a nuisance” and alleging she fabricated lies

In a press release, Al Jazeera said the former premier was quizzed on a slew of issues ranging from the “pink diamond” to the “RM2.6 billion donation” during the hour-long “grilling”.

Al Jazeera said Najib “lost his cool a couple of times” and the question regarding the pink diamond left him “visibly irritated”.

The interview was conducted by Mary Ann Jolley, whom the Najib-administration deported in 2015 while she was pursuing a story on the Altantuya Shariibuu murder.

When Jolley raised her deportation, Najib expressed no regret for doing so.

“Good thing we deported you. You are a nuisance. Because as far as I am concerned, making lies.

“Fabricating lies is not something we want to tolerate in this country,” said the former premier.

Jolley produced a 30-minute documentary titled ‘Murder in Malaysia‘, which attempted to shed light on the many unanswered questions surrounding Altantuya’s murder.

Among others, the documentary claimed Sirul Azhar Umar – one of two former police commandos found guilty of murdering the Mongolian national in 2006 – had attempted to blackmail Najib.

The ‘101 East‘ interview with Najib would be aired at 11.30am tomorrow (Oct 27) followed by repeats on Monday and Tuesday.
