The government has denied speculation that Jan 31 will be declared a public holiday.
A viral message had claimed that the public holiday is in conjunction with the swearing-in of the new Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.
The Malaysian Government Call Centre (MGCC) clarified that the Conference of Rulers’ special meeting on Jan 31 is for the oath-taking ceremony of the new King.
However, the coronation will not be held on that day, hence there will be no public holiday declared.
Checks with the office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal also showed that no public holiday has been announced.
The only one who can announce a public holiday for the country is the Chief Secretary to the Government, Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Bakar.
The Conference of Rulers will meet on Jan 24 to decide who will be the new Agong.
Pahang’s newly installed ruler, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, is widely expected to be crowned as the next King.
