A source from Pakatan Harapan (PH) has denied a news report stating that 10 Umno lawmakers have backed Anwar Ibrahim to form a new government, reports Astro Awani.

The report quoted the source as saying that based on information obtained, the support expressed by former prime minister Najib Razak and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was also deemed false.

“We are denying the news report.

“The information is also false,” the source was quoted as saying in a statement to Astro Awani today to rebut a previous report by the news channel.

At the same time, Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s communications director Fahmi Fadzil also slammed Astro Awani for putting up an unsubstantiated story without any verification.

“Awani produced a report based on an unidentified single source without confirmation or verification.

“Just to get a denial (from us).

“This is what is called the ‘fishing expedition’ tactic,” said the Lembah Pantai MP in a tweet.

Earlier, a report by Astro Awani mentioned that Anwar had obtained support and backing from 10 Umno MPs to hold a majority in Dewan Rakyat.

The report said the Port Dickson MP was planning to submit statutory declarations in support for him to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The source claimed that Anwar has 113 MPs in his support. – TMI
