The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has been urged to investigate why Putrajaya needs to fork out between RM11 billion and RM15 billion for the country’s 5G network.
Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Independent-Muar) said this was not a small amount.
The government, he added, had carried out open bidding for the 4G rollout and successfully raised RM4 billion to RM7 billion.
“The money was used to upgrade rural internet connectivity,” he said.
However, for the 5G rollout, he said there was a monopoly for the first time, and it will be managed by Digital Nasional Berhad.
Due to that, he said PAC should carry out an investigation into the matter.
In July, Malaysia announced that it had chosen Sweden’s Ericsson over Huawei to design and build the country’s 5G telecommunications network. – FMT
