Kuala Lumpur police are not dismissing the possibility that Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh may have orchestrated her own abduction.

City police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed on Thursday (8 May) that investigations are ongoing and that the theory of a staged kidnapping is being considered.

“It is one of the angles in our investigation. We will conduct a thorough investigation to rule out the possibilities,” he said during a press conference at the KL police headquarters.

Comm Rusdi revealed that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed Ling complying with her abductors’ instructions as she was removed from an e-hailing vehicle.
“There was no scuffle as the victim followed the instructions of her abductors,” he added.

When asked whether professionals might have been involved, he said the matter was “subjective” and appealed for space to continue investigations and ensure Ling’s safe return.

Although immigration records confirm Ling is still in Malaysia, Comm Rusdi noted she may have been taken out through illegal routes. “We are using all resources to track her down,” he said.

Further analysis of CCTV footage revealed that five vehicles were involved in the abduction, not three as initially believed. Three of these vehicles were using cloned number plates.

“We have spoken to the original vehicle owners, who confirmed they were in possession of their vehicles at the time of the incident,” Rusdi said.

Footage from Ling’s point of departure showed her appearing calm and cooperative, with no signs of struggle.

Regarding claims that uniformed personnel were involved, Comm Rusdi confirmed two suspects were seen wearing police vests but were impostors.

“There were no sanctioned police operations at the time. The suspects likely wore the vests to impersonate officers and mislead the victim,” he explained.

“In our own operations, such vests are often not worn to avoid compromising identity and effectiveness.”

Rusdi said police believe at least eight suspects were involved—five drivers and three others who exited the intercepting vehicles.

A photofit of one suspect has been produced but is currently incomplete and not useful. “The photofit is 40 percent complete. If there are no more leads, we will release it to the public,” he said.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain previously stated that Ling’s husband is also considered a possible suspect.
“For now, the possibilities are along those lines, and perhaps others are involved as well,” he said.
