Police today raided the office of Deloitte Malaysia, a move believed linked to the 1MDB investigation.
Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) sent a team of officers to the Deloitte head office in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, at noon on Thursday (May 23).
No arrests were reported as of 3.15pm. Documents and files were confiscated during the raid which is ongoing.
Deloitte had audited 1MDB’s financial statements for 2013 and 2014 before it withdrew as the beleaguered state investment fund’s auditor in early 2016.
It was 1MDB’s third auditor after the fund fired its earlier auditors, KPMG and Ernst & Young.
Deloitte is the first accounting firm to be raided in relation to the 1MDB case.
It is among the big four international accounting companies that include Ernst and Young, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
