A police simulation has shown that the position where student Zara Qairina Mahathir was found most closely matched a fall without being pushed.
Testifying as the fifth witness in the inquest, Insp Maidon Bernandus from the Sabah Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department (D10) said the test was carried out at about 3am on August 3 at the hostel block.
He told the Coroner’s Court before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan that the simulation was conducted with the investigating officer, four other D10 personnel, representatives from Papar district police, and the hostel warden.
“The simulation was carried out from the corridor near the third-floor toilet door using a mannequin weighing 10kg, fitted with additional weights to total 53kg, matching the victim’s estimated weight. The mannequin was released in two scenarios: the first without being pushed and the second with minimal force,” he said.
Maidon added that the first scenario most closely resembled the crime scene photo and the position where Zara was discovered on the ground of her dormitory block on July 16.
